A brief history of Sallama Fusion Belly Dance
The founding troupe members
Sallama originally formed as a dance troupe who specialised in a "Fusion" style of Belly Dance. The name Sallama derives from the turkish word meaning "Shake" and it is also the arabic word for "Peace".
The original troupe danced together for 9 years and performed at a variety of functions including parties, shows, weddings, cabarets, fetes and festivals. During that time one of the founding members, Meisha Elias, started to extend her repertoire into teaching and over the past 5 years has formed another troupe known as Yasanti which consists of many of her students who like to perform. As the original troupe moved on to pastures new, Meisha and Yasanti continue performing regularly and are available to bring some theatre to your event!
